Tiny Tails Hammocks FAQ
Over the past year, I've received several questions regarding the hammocks and cage accessories I make. If you have any questions about my products, please read on!
What are your hammocks, snuggle sacks, and tunnels made out of?
I make an effort to gather a large selection of cotton, fleece, flannel, interfacing and various new and upcycled fabrics (when possible). Each Etsy listing includes the type of material used to construct that item in its description.
Are upcycled fabrics clean?
Yes. I wash all fabrics, whether new or upcycled, prior to using them in a sewing project. Upcycled fabrics are checked for damage and stains and, if found to be in an unsuitable condition, they are donated to an establishment which recycles textiles.
Are hammocks, snuggle sacks, and tunnels machine washable?
Yes. All fabric cage accessories are intended to be laundered extensively. A laundry bag is recommended, but not required, unless you are washing fleece nesting strips. Fleece nesting strips can get lodged in crevices in your washer and become lost, or simply not be agitated properly.
I recommend that all pet bedding be washed in warm or cold water with unscented detergent and without the use of fabric softener; tumble dry on regular heat without a dryer sheet. Fabric softener and dryer sheets deposit strong perfumes into fabrics and can cause fleece to become less absorbent. I recommend you use white vinegar in place of fabric softener and stop the dryer cycle while the hammocks are slightly damp to deter static.
Will the grommets rust?
If the items are laundered as recommended and used in an indoor environment, the grommets will not rust.
What happens if my pet chews my hammock?
Some pets love to renovate their bedding, while some are content with how it is given to them. If you
find your pet has chewed on a hammock, please inspect it for safety. Cut away loose threads and any small fabric pieces which could be ingested. A hammock can still be laundered and used as long it will safely support your pet.
What are the sizing guidelines for small, medium, large, and extra-large hammocks?
Small: Usually has dimensions under 10” (25 cm); the top surface area is less than 100 square inches.
Medium: Usually has dimensions between 10.1” and 13” (25 cm and 33 cm); the top surface area is between 101 and 169 square inches.
Large: Usually has dimensions between 13.1” and 16” (33cm and 41 cm); the top surface area is between 170 and 256 square inches.
Extra Large: Usually has dimensions greater than 16.1” (41 cm) or the top surface area is greater than 257 square inches.
